Professional Pull-Down TV Mount Installation

Pull-down TV mounts let you position your television above a fireplace when not in use and lower it to a more comfortable viewing height when it's time to watch. These specialty mounts require careful placement, secure structural attachment, and precise adjustment. TVPerch helps connect customers with qualified local installation professionals experienced in specialty TV mounting.

What is a pull-down TV mount?

A pull-down (also called a drop-down) mount attaches to the wall above your fireplace and holds the television on an articulating mechanism. When you're ready to watch, you pull the TV down and forward so the screen sits at a normal, comfortable viewing height; when you're done, it pushes back up toward the mantel and out of the way.

Manual pull-down systems use gas-assisted arms that move smoothly by hand and hold position without power. Motorized versions lower and raise the TV electrically, often with a remote or wall switch.

Why lower a TV from above the fireplace?

Mounting above the fireplace solves a placement problem — but a fixed high position forces you to look up for every viewing session. Pull-down mounts keep the benefits and remove the strain:

  • Watch at a comfortable eye level instead of craning your neck upward.
  • Tuck the TV up and out of the way when it isn't in use.
  • Keep sightlines to the fireplace and mantel decor when the TV is raised.
  • Ideal for rooms where the fireplace is the natural focal wall.
  • Reduces glare compared with a permanently low or high fixed position.

Manual versus motorized pull-down mounts

Manual pull-down

Hand-operated gas-assisted arms. No power, wiring, or remote configuration. Simpler installation, typically lower equipment cost, and pull-down effort is minimal thanks to the assist mechanism.

Motorized pull-down

Electric lift with remote or switch control. Requires power at the mounting location, model-specific setup, and calibration. These installations are reviewed individually and receive a custom quote.

Why these mounts require more installation labor

A pull-down mount is a mechanism, not just a bracket. Professional installation includes mounting and aligning the wall plate, assembling and attaching the pull-down arms, confirming tension and smooth travel through the full range of motion, and safely handling the television at an elevated height — usually above a fireplace.

Because the TV, mechanism, and safety components must be handled together and adjusted precisely, TVPerch treats pull-down installation as a two-person, specialty-classified service and prices it accordingly. A correctly installed pull-down mount should move smoothly for years; a rushed one sags, binds, or drifts out of level.

Mount and television compatibility

Compatibility always follows the mount manufacturer's specifications — TV size, weight, and VESA pattern — plus the structural support behind your mounting surface. Common specialty systems customers bring us include:

  • MantelMount MM340 (manual)
  • MantelMount MM440 (manual)
  • MantelMount MM540 (manual, auto-straighten)
  • MantelMount MM700 (manual, above fireplace)
  • MantelMount MAX1 (manual)
  • MantelMount MM815 (motorized)
  • Other manual pull-down mounts
  • Other motorized drop-down mounts

Don't see your model listed? Select "other" or "unknown" when you request a quote — your installer will verify the specifications on-site. TVPerch is an independent installation coordination service and is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any mount manufacturer. Model names are referenced for identification only.

Wall surface and fireplace considerations

Above-fireplace pull-down installations demand careful site assessment. Before work begins, your installer evaluates:

  • Structural support: solid framing or masonry behind the mounting surface.
  • Manufacturer-required clearances to the mantel, surround, and ceiling.
  • Heat exposure from the fireplace and safe attachment locations.
  • Safe cable movement throughout the mount's full range of motion.
  • Obstacles such as shelving, trim, outlets, or venetian-facing decor.

Decorative stone veneer or fireplace facing is not assumed to provide adequate structural support — the mount must anchor to appropriate structural material behind it. If an installation cannot be performed safely, the installer escalates it rather than proceeding, and TVPerch works with you on alternatives.

Professional two-person installation

Every pull-down installation TVPerch coordinates is performed by a qualified two-person crew. Handling the spring-assisted mechanism, mount frame, and television simultaneously — especially on a ladder above a fireplace — is not a one-person job, and manufacturer safety instructions require team installation for these systems.

Contractors in the TVPerch network remain responsible for their crew, tools, insurance, and the safe performance of the work, and only installers qualified for pull-down and MantelMount-style systems are assigned these jobs.

Local pricing and availability

Pull-down installation pricing is set per market and reflects the specialty labor and two-person crew the work requires, using the same ZIP-based regional pricing system as every TVPerch service. Motorized pull-down lifts and complex installation conditions are reviewed individually before a quote is issued.

Submit a request with your ZIP code and TV details, and TVPerch will confirm local pricing and installer availability. Availability varies by market, and a requested date is not a confirmed appointment until an installer has agreed to the job.

Installation FAQ

Customer-provided mount: Installation pricing covers the mounting service; the television and a compatible pull-down mount are customer-provided.
